Don't only say you accept, show it by your actions
Everyday, recently, I have made an attempt to add some learning to my kitty. Though some days go waste, not because there is not much to learn, but more because I am not observant enough. In these series of blogs that I am going to make every week, I am going to share something amazing that came my way last week. I hope the story of the week helps you in some way and encourages you to share your learning with me.
Recently, during this last weekend I attended workshop on "Just therapy" , Just being a short form of Justice. The workshop was conducted by Charles Waldegrave, from Family Centre, NZ, one of the pioneers of Just Therapy. The most important proposition that they work on is that for any relationship to be empowering, it has to have three characteristics: Sacrednes, Belongingness and Liberation, all three together, defined in a cultural context. One of the interesting practices I learnt from the Family Centre, was caucusing, i.e. cultural caucusing. gender caucusing. People in the family centre in order to give minorities a say in the system and to make them feel included do this praactice. According to this, the minority group verbalizes what they are not comfortable with in the organization and both the groups go seperately and discuss in their group and reach a consensus. They then come back together and discus it again to reach a consensus which is accepted by the minority group. Thus, my learning was not only about so many times we keep claiming about giving respect to all groups, though our action do not actually support our claims. How many times have you actually given an equal status to person of lasser priveleged group. Think!!!!
